About the Study
A study on the metabolism occurring inside cancerous cells was carried out at the University of Salford, Manchester. The researchers compared three natural substances among them Vitamin C against the same number of investigational pharmaceutical drugs and an approved drug in the market. In simpler terms, the study found out that silibinin (milk thistle seeds’ extract), CAPE (caffeic acid phenethyl ester) and Vitamin C were effective in treating cancer. However, in another detailed section of the report, Vitamin C was identified as being 10 times more effective than 2-DG, an investigational pharmaceutical treatment aiming cancer-affected stem cells.
It seems Linus Pauling’s legacy is growing strong, much to the vexation of the larger pharmaceutical industry. A recently published discovery on Oncotarget, stated that researchers had found out how Vitamin C can halt completely the intensification of cancer in stem cells when taken in concerted amounts. This nutrient is so amazing and is touted as being 1,000% more effectual than a single clinical drug commonly prescribed for the treatment of cancer and another awaiting FDA’s approval. Effectiveness of the Study
Various quarters are touting this study as the first to bring out real evidence on the capability of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) in destroying cancerous stem cells (CSCs). These are the same cells that stimulate the development of cancerous tumors. Despite the claims that this was the first ever real evidence on Vitamin C’s effectiveness on CSCs, there were two previous studies that had been published in 2006. The “Complementary and Alternative Medicine” (CAM) crowd had published these studies as evidence to vindicate the findings of Linus Pauling.
Cancer stem-like cells are believed to be the cause of chemotherapy opposition, which leads to treatment failure in a number of patients suffering from the advanced disease. They are also the triggers of metastatis (redevelopment of cancer cells) and tumor recurrence. It is inconsequential whether these studies vindicated Pauling or not, the new study is enough proof that he was on the path of discovering something big. Linus Pauling was the solo-winner of two Nobel prizes, he proposed that terminal cancer patients can survive for longer if they are treated with Vitamin C (10,000mg) via an IV.
